Is McDonald's Filet-O-Fish Shrinking? Customers Think So

Customers will notice any changes to McDonald's Filet-O-Fish, a menu mainstay for decades. Fans assume the Filet-O-Fish portions have shrunk and are unhappy about it.

In recent months, several customers have complained about Mickey D's famous fish sandwich, which has a crispy fish filet patty, American

cheese, and tartar sauce on a soft, steamed bun, being too big. In October 2023, TikTok founder @neilybob claimed the "already small" sandwich had "shrunk" greatly.

Mike Haracz, a former McDonald's corporate chef, also says the Filet-O-Fish isn't shrinking. A November 2023 TikTok video showed him eating a Filet-O-Fish

Even though the Filet-O-Fish isn't smaller, many consumers are unhappy with its portion size.

In our latest fast-food fish sandwich taste test, the Filet-O-Fish was the smallest at 139 grams.

The $5.75 Filet-O-Fish, the smallest of the batch, cost nearly as much

as Popeyes' $5.99 228-gram Flounder Fish Sandwich.
