Nationally popular peanut butter is being taken off grocery store shelves.
Jif peanut butter was recalled Friday owing to salmonella contamination by The J.M. Smucker Co. Salmonella can cause life-threatening illnesses
in children, the elderly, and individuals with compromised immune systems. Salmonella infections in healthy persons cause fever, nausea
Retailers and other venues nationwide sold the recalled peanut butter. Products with lot codes 1274425–2140425 are recalled. Lot codes and best-if-used-by dates are included.
"If consumers have products matching the above description, they should dispose of it immediately," the business stated in a press release.
MacroTrends reported $7.8 billion in 2022 profits for J.M. Smucker Co., down 3.5%.
Statista found Jif the most popular peanut butter brand last year. Working with the US Census and Simmons National Consumer Survey,
they asked households, "Which brands of peanut butter have you eaten most in the last 30 days?"
American pantry staple Jif has been around since 1956. The survey found 117.31 million Jif consumers in 2020. Jif also sells almond butter and hazelnut spreads to compete.
